Code Of Conduct

Best Practices for Proper Hygiene

To ensure a safe and healthy training environment, the following is required of all Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Mayde Creek students:

  • Attend class clean/showered and wear deodorant.
  • Clip fingernails and toenails short before each training session.
  • Brush teeth to prevent offensive bad breath.
  • Do not train with open cuts or scratches unless they are properly covered.
  • Do not train if you are sick with common illnesses, such as the cold or flu.
  • Shower after training to reduce the risk of skin infections.
  • Address any skin issues immediately.  Often, issues like staph infections and MRSA start out looking and feeling like a bug bite or ingrown hair.  If you notice anything suspicious on your skin, please consult a physician and do not train until it is cleared up.
  • Collect all clothing and training gear from the bathroom after each training session.  Leaving these articles causes foul odors and the spread of germs.
  • Wash gi after every class.  A clean gi equals a clean life.

Best Practices for Proper Dress Code

To maintain a respectful and comfortable training environment, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Mayde Creek students must wear the academy-assigned white gi. No other uniform is allowed.

The following must be regarded before each class:

  • Activewear, such as a tee shirt or rash guard, must be worn under the gi top.
  • All jewelry must be removed.
  • Avoid hair restraints with metal or plastic pieces to prevent hair from tangling or getting caught while training.
  • No socks or shoes are permitted on the mat.
  • Off the mat space, shoes are required. Most individuals choose slides or flip flops for ease.
  • Personal items, such as shoes and small bags or purses, can be stored underneath patron chairs.

If you are not a student, please stay off the mat and keep a low volume so as not to disturb the teaching environment. Any special requests or questions should be communicated with the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Mayde Creek support team.
